Chapter 14 - Part 5

She opened her eyes lazily. Snakes did not have eyelids, but she did. Her flesh was newly made, and therefore perfect. She smelled the sunset. The sun could not harm her, but she preferred to hunt at night. So much of her prey was out at night.

Magic gathered within her as she slithered up the narrow crevasse by the dead tree. The forest sounds silenced as she came out. It amused her that the birds and crickets thought that they were worth her time.

She slowly turned all around, sniffing the air. As she was almost all the way around, a wind came up from the southwest. A wind that smelled of horseflesh.

Salivating past sharp teeth, she began to undulate through the forest.
